Luke 9:23 which says “whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me”.
What is one the Lord’s simple commands of obedience? The Lords commands of obedience are only simple and clear to us, when we realize in our hearts that… What Jesus ASKS of us is not hard but what Jesus DID for us was!
Luke 9:23 says …“Whoever wants to be my disciple, must deny themselves”. A ‘want’ is something you desire to possess or desire to do. You could say ‘I am hungry, I WANT something to eat’ or I am tired, I WANT go to sleep. Whatever it is that you WANT, you go after it. “A Want” is like nourishment, once you fill that desire sooner or later, it’s going to come around again. Just like Jesus… He is the Bread of Life, He is the Living Water...you have to CHOOSE to “want to” follow Christ!
We have to step out of our comfort zone, recognizing that our life is not “about us, it’s about Jesus. In obedience to Christ our personal desires, our personal gain, and our personal motives, cannot be our top priority. Simply put, Christ’s command of total obedience, are to:
a) Reach out to others
b) Teach others
c) Serve the Lord and others
d) Give to the Lord and others
